L. Ian MacDonald is Editor and Publisher of Policy Magazine, Canada?s bi-monthly magazine of politics and public policy. He is also a weekly columnist with iPolitics and frequent contributor to CPAC.
He is the author of six books, including the bestelling Mulroney:The Making of the Prime Minister, and the critically acclaimed From Bourassa to Bourassa: Wilderness to Restoration, and co-author with Leo Kolber of the bestselling business autobiography, Leo: A Life. His most recent book, Inside Politics, is a collection of articles and columns from 2009-2017, published in 2018 by McGill-Queen?s University Press.
He served as principal speechwriter to Prime Ministers Brian Mulroney from 1985-88, and later as Minister of Public Affairs at the Canadian Embassy in Washington from 1992-94.
A graduate in honours political science of Concordia University (Loyola) in 1969, he is a former member of the Concordia Board of Governors, and a former board member of Loyola High School.
He has two daughters, Grace born in 1990, and Zara born in 2009. He lives in Montreal.
